Lumos

quick painting of a sketch i did of Harry. Hopefully the colors look right, my Cintiq has a mind of it's own.

I read the first Harry Potter book when I was 13. The books and movies are a big part of my young adult life. Now that I've seen the final movie, I guess that means it's time to grow up and stop acting like a child, right?

Naaaahhhhhhhh

treasure pony and terraria

Dearest friends!

This is a treasure pony. Don't see the treasure? LOOK AT HIS CHEST! Treasure chest!!1 get it? no?

Me and some of the office bros have been playing Terraria the last couple weeks. This is a tribute. (Also I practically traced this pose from someone else, but I can't remember who).

Also, I finally made a photoshop brush that looks something like a pencil. behold:

I left my sketchbook at work, but once i retrieve it I shall scan in some stuffs. Work is going great, family's doing good.

On a more personal note, and since some family and friends follow this blog expecting periodic updates on how we're doing, our little 3 year-old Max was just diagnosed with Autism, somewhere on the spectrum. He's always been a little behind, and has a strange savant ability with reading. So even though it hasn't come as a huge surprise to us, it's just relieving to put a name to his delays. He's really great and isn't a difficult child in the slightest.

AAAAnyways! be back in a couple days with more stuffs, hopefully!

new card, new life

So from what I can tell, the new TCG set The War of the Elements is out, so I can post this:

I'll have at least one more on the way..... these are way fun and I'm learning a lot from doing them.

I keep looking around for more art to post, but mostly everything I see is still under some sort of NDA... once we get completely settled here I'll need to start doing a lot more!

Speaking of which, California is going gooood. The family is doing pretty good so far, and I'm back at Blizzard, where I belong..... it's an honor working with the incredible artists around me, and I'm definitely feeling the pressure to get better. Sempre em frente, AMIRITE?!?

Blizzard round two. FIGHT!

I recently accepted an offer to work as an artist at Blizzard on the World of Warcraft team. I start next month and am extremely excited! It's a dream come true, I feel so lucky to have this chance. I owe so much to so many people at BYU, Blizzard, Avalanche, online, and to my friends and family.

AKIRA

joined in with Jake and Anthony on some Akira fan art this week. This is takashi, the creepiest little man-monster-child esper in all of neo-Tokyo.

I got some 3d stuff brewing, should be coming up soonish!

also, I did a little interview for the folks over at 3D Coat: Click Here

secret of mana fan art

in honor of secret of mana being released for the iphone, I was compelled beyond my will to do some fan art of my favorite elemental from the game-- Salamando. He's so sassy!

I was 7 years old when Secret of Mana came out on SNES. the first drawing i remember doing ever in my life was copying concept art from the user's manual. This game is solely responsible for my desire to do art.

and something that i sketched after seeing tangled:

k done k

well I think I'm pretty much done, here's some final shots and the texture sheet. That final sheet won't work for the competition, I need to fit the texture sheet and a wireframe shot in there. so i made this one just for YOU. yes, you. i love you.

finals are underway at school, so i'm hoping to crank out a lot of goodness over the christmas break. rawr.

edit- blogger has added a bunch of really great artifacts to these, if anyone knows how to get rid of that, i kiss you.

pre dominance war

So i'm making a character for the pre-dominance war challenge. I'm maybe halfway done, but I thought I'd post my concept and my progress so far:

that's all for now!

*edit* I forgot, I made a little video just showing some of my process for the lunchcrunch blog :

hand painted tom foolery

flat diffuse:

horrible temp lighting:

so I'm still working on this guy, but my blog felt eerily empty as of late, so i'm jumping the proverbial gun and posting him.

i was going for a hand painted look obviously inspired by WoW and the like, but I wanted him to feel a touch more illustrative. He still needs work so i'll post more when i'm done. I'll post the concepts i did as well... on the aforementioned date.

here's the flats:

back to school qq

well i'm back at school. Blizzard was amazing. human words can't describe the experience. It sorta feels like it was just a nice dream, and now i've woken up...... sweaty and scared and back in the real world. Hopefully blizzcon will remedy my postpartum.

okay so it's not THAT bad being back at school. i'm making plans to make the most of my last couple semesters, and hopefully i can learn a lot and beef up the ol' portfolio + demo reel.

here's my first assignment back at school: render this guy out using only one color. lineart by sam nielson.

p.s. new blog header! I'm shameless...

troll sketch

this sketch taught me that I really need to think before I start painting. and while I'm painting, for that matter...

Blizzard is going amazing. I'm on the character art team for Diablo 3. I can't walk 5 feet without bumping into an amazing artist.
